Weekend Backpack Program
“Nourishing Children. Strengthening Families. Building Hope.”
Who We Serve
The Agape House Backpack Program serves approximately 300 elementary school students each week throughout the greater Eastern Oregon community, including children in:
Hermiston
Umatilla
Echo
Stanfield
Irrigon
We partner with local schools to help identify students who may benefit from additional food support. Our goal is to provide a reliable resource for children facing food insecurity while respecting the privacy and dignity of every family we serve.
The Weekend Backpack Program helps provide nutritious food support to elementary school children who may experience food insecurity when school meals are not available. Through the generosity of volunteers, community partners, local organizations, and donors, we work together to ensure children have access to food during weekends, school breaks, and other times when additional support is needed.
Our mission is to provide assistance with compassion, dignity, and respect while helping children focus on learning, growing, and reaching their full potential.
How It Works
Through strong collaboration with schools and community partners, Agape House provides food packages designed to help supplement meals when children are away from school.
The program is made possible through:
Dedicated volunteers who help prepare and organize food packages
Local seniors from our Presbyterian Church who generously give their time and service
Members of the Altrusa Club who support our mission and children in our community
Monthly support from Anderson Hansell Law Firm
Individual donors who make this program possible through their generosity
Together, we work to ensure that children receive consistent, dependable food assistance in a caring and respectful manner.
Accountability & Partnerships
Agape House values accountability, collaboration, and responsible stewardship of community support. We work closely with schools and community partners to ensure food distribution is consistent, organized, and responsive to local needs.
Communication and feedback from families, school staff, volunteers, and community partners help us evaluate our program, improve services, and better understand the needs of the children and families we serve.
Community Impact
When school is out, many children lose access to the meals they depend on during the school week. The Backpack Program helps bridge that gap by providing nutritious food support so children can return to school ready to learn and participate.
With the support of our community, we are helping:
Reduce childhood hunger
Support student success
Strengthen families
Provide hope and stability during challenging times
Every backpack represents more than food—it represents compassion, community, and a commitment to caring for our neighbors.
Become a Community Partner
Businesses, churches, organizations, and individuals can partner with Agape House to help expand our reach and support more children in our community.
Together, we can continue providing food, hope, and encouragement to children throughout Eastern Oregon.
Help us make sure no child goes hungry when school is out.
